Streakfly

The Nike Streakfly developed from the long-running Zoom Streak series in the early 2020s. Harnessing groundbreaking modern technologies, it was designed for distances up to 10K, filling an important niche in the brand’s lineup of competitive road racing shoes.

Released in 2022, the Nike Streakfly features a lightweight engineered mesh upper with excellent breathability. Its asymmetrical lacing, gusseted tongue and generous heel padding hold the foot securely in place, with decent cushioning on the tongue and good space in the forefoot for all-round comfort. Responsive ZoomX foam fills the midsole, providing strong energy return and solid impact protection. At a little over 30mm tall, it offers good ground connection for a modern running shoe, with a small Pebax midfoot shank subtly stabilising the soft foam without compromising flexibility. A hard rubber outsole covers the forefoot and the sides of the heel, contributing to the Streakfly’s featherweight build as its rippling tread lines create firm grip.

Although the versatile design of the original silhouette suits everything from easy paced training to challenging tempo runs and competitive races, the Streakfly 2 has so many changes that it looks and feels like a completely different model. Its seamless engineered mesh upper is extremely breathable, with all reinforcements and padding, from the ultra-thin tongue to the slim heel cushioning, cut back to the absolute minimum. As a result, it is over 40g lighter and therefore much quicker than its predecessor,  with a streamlined, track-spike last that facilitates even greater speeds. Meanwhile, its centred lacing, stretchy notched laces and snug design offer excellent lockdown and a more consistent fit, and its flexible heel is furnished with a convenient fold-down pull tab. Underfoot, its high-performance, ‘system of speed’ sole features a full-length carbon-fibre Flyplate alongside enhanced ZoomX foam for outstanding energy return. Combined with the dramatic curvature of the forefoot and the reduced 4mm offset, which encourages forefoot striking, these cutting-edge components deliver propulsive power. The thin, Waffle-style outsole is made of a sticky, webbed substance that is lighter and grips better on wet and dry roads, with a large cutout through its centre for improved flexibility and an ultra-lightweight feel.

The Nike Streakfly 2 was released in 2025 alongside the Vaporfly 4, allowing the brand to emphasise its place in the road running lineup. While the latter excels up to the full marathon distance, the former is optimised for maximum speed and responsiveness over shorter races. Its release campaign highlighted the experiences of elite athletes like Jessica Hull and Cooper Teare, who, along with everyday runners, provided much of the data and feedback that informed the Streakfly’s boundary pushing design. Scottish middle-distance runner Jemma Reekie proved the shoe’s incredible potential by taking first place in New York’s iconic Fifth Avenue Mile race in 2023 while wearing a prototype version.

The modern Nike Streakfly is a rapid, track-spike-inspired road racing shoe with a stunning collection of cutting-edge features designed to help runners achieve personal best times at distances up to 10K.
